Ich affecting eye of my blue tang

My blue tang is severely affected by ich. I started treatment yesterday but U think it may be too late. His eyes were a bit cloudy this morning. Can this be reversed with the treatment or is the fish doomed to lose his eyes?

I have never been able to keep a blue tang without ick until I stated using ozone. If you want to keep a blue tang with 0 problems either get a UV or ozone. I have one today and he is in perfect condition.

It's not unusual for a parasite infected fish to develop secondary bacterial infections. It sounds like that is what is going on.

A freshwater dip will not cure Marine Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans) but it can help the fish get rid of some of the parasites attached to the gills and other exposed parasites.

I would perform one on your tang. This is one suggested method of the FW dip:

How are you treating the fish of this condition? The reason why I ask is, if the fish is in a quarantine or hospital tank undergoing certain kinds of treatments, it is possible to treat the fish with an antibiotic at the same time it is being treated for Marine Ich.

Really? Without quarantine? I will look into it. I know little about UV sterilizers.

But back to my original question, any advice on that?

The tang is in a hospital tank now with lower salinity. I'm not down to the recommended hyposalinity level yet.
No medication.

The interesting thing is that it's as active as normal.

Since you're treating by hyposalinity, then I would recommend adding an antibiotic to the QT.

I would recommend using Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes at the recommended initial dosage and half the recommended subsequent doses.

The optimum diet including vitamin and fat supplements as well as beta glucan is very important at this point. For some suggestions on this see this post:

Thanks.
I'm not sure if I will be able to find all this stuff in my LFS, but I will take a look.

BTW

Beta glucan is the same used by humans. You'll find it at a (human) health food store.

Good luck! :)
