ich & cleaner shrimp

I am under the impression that cleaner shrimp cannot catch the ich disease, but they can transfer it unless left without fish in the system for 6-8 weeks thus breaking the life cycle of the parasite. With this knowledge if I have a shrimp in an infected ich tank can you freshwater dip him to transfer to a tank that is not infected? Or is there anyway else to rid his body of any parasites?

Cleaner shrimp do not carry ich. Ich will die out with no fish in the tank for 9 weeks. Cleaner shrimp DO NOT eat ich.

Yes, I understand cleaner shrimp is not an ich solution , but is there no way to disinfect him from the qt tank , maybe tank transfer method?

The chances of the shrimp carrying any shrimp are very small. But I'm ich paranoid. I think a mini-version of TT would work; the only forms of ich on the shrimp would be able to rinse off, they aren't attached. Maybe set up a few glasses with water from the clean tank (same params as his old water, acclimate to new water params if needed. , give him a dip in in one, rinse well, repeat---you get the idea. I've done this with inverts; maybe its nuts. But I'm never going to tear own a big tank because of parasites again either. When you're done, please post your procedure and folks who don't take ich seriously, as you & I do, can get a big laugh. Then follow the disease forum and see all the folks who are going postal battling ich.

Tank transfer assumes correctly that the cryptocaryon parasite has an intrinsic need to reproduce; as such the tomonts drop off the host fish in a very predictable manner. Since no tomont can establish itself on a cleaner shrimp, the only concern would be the tomite part of the life cycle, and as mentioned above by my compatriot, a rinse in clean matching saltwater will obviate this problem. Paranoid is good. Actually paranoid is VERY good. (they really are out to get you, you know).
