ich in a new system?

No, do not do any water change when the tank is cycling. You want the ammonia to be high to cycle for the future fish population.

The damsel is not the issue except on principle it is unnecessary..

Doing water changes during the cycle will not have any effect on the long term carrying capacity of the tank/bacteria. It will cycle just fine with doing water changes. Plus, keeping the ammonia low will help preserve more of the life on the live rock.

patients patients, cycle tank with NO fish.hard as it is wait.be sure to set up small quarrantine tank for new fish, don t make the mistakes i did by dumping in fish,i saved so much with quarrantine,it works

The whole idea of using LR to cycle is absurd, even often done.

If you want to preserve more life on the rock, you should cycle the tank with a different cheap medium first before putting the rock in.

Cycling and nitrification is a very simple idea. The LR is more than nitrification. If you want the LR as a source of livestock it is better to cycle first.

Nuff said. Don't want this discussion in the beginner's section.

"absurd" "nuff said" Even if this is the beginner section it wouldn't be worth discussion.

If you are really concerned with ick getting into your main display, then you should look into QT'ing all new additions. I know it is hard to wait out the 4-8 week QT period for each new addition when starting up a new tank, but the patience will pay off in the end.

Its a small price to pay considering the potential lifespan of saltwater fish. By doing everything you possibably can now to provide the healthiest environment for your fish, corals, inverts, etc. can mean many years of enjoyment to come!!

good luck

I dont have a problem with waiting. I also have a QT tank, it's not cycling yet but I have one. I just used the Damsel, And I will aslo keep it. The damsel does not have Ich. I also did a 40 gal water change last night to bring down the amonia so the damsel will not be too stressed.

Tank is goin on two weeks.

Thanks
