Hopefully the picture posted. I lost my naso tang yesterday and now today it looks like my Powder Brown is taking a dive. I noticed the brown on my Xenia tree which hasnt been there in the past. Im kinda lost on whats going on. Anyone live in the area that could stop by? I live in Minersville, PA.

from what i seem to remember is that all fish have ick but it only comes out when the fish is stressed out.if you had a lost in the tank you proboly have an ammonia build up in the tank(i know cause i just lost a bunch or corals the other week in my 300 gallon and after changing about 150 gallons of water over the last 2-3 weeks things are starting to bouce back)the best thing i would say is to do a water change, run fresh carbon, and possibly feed some freshly chopped garlic.
hope that helps you out

I feed some garlic last night and I just did my water change 3 nights ago. I did another water change last night. The ammonia tested at 0 this morning. The fish that died, died in a QT tank. I put him in there with a copper based formula to try to kick the ick.

ick usually = stress could it have been the water from the water change maybe? different salt or temp could the bucket have had something other then salt water in it previously?
i'm just shooting out possibilities (learning from my prior mistakes)

Same salt, same rodi water the bucket may have changed. I was unsure about that so I rinsed it out with hot water. It must have been that. Ive never had these problems before.

Your tree looks to have cyno bacteria. Ick is a parasite. I don't believe fish = having parasites. Have you introduce any new items into your tank? Did you QT for at least 30 days? Ick is tough to get rid of in a reef tank, best way is too remove the fish (the host) treat the fish in QT, let the reef tank sit fish-less for 45 days and raise the temp to about 82. That will help the parasite cycle along. Vacuum the sub-straight best you can. That is just one mans opinion on how to get rid of ick, no doubt other opinions differ.

It's only a theory until enough people believe, but feed garlic everyday for 2 months. Not every other day, everyday. It basically changes the taste of the fish to the extent of ich not attaching anymore. After 2 months all ich will starve out....

Obviously you have other issues as well....

Nitrates were high after I tested. Im doing what I can to lower them and Ill retest in the morning. Im not feeding tonight but will continue tomorrow night.
