Hey guys/gals. I have read that the only way to effectively treat ich in a display tank is to let the tank run fallow for a period of time. My question is if only one of the inhabitants is showing symptoms, would putting just the infected specimen in QT and leaving the other inhabitants in the DT be considered running the aquarium fallow. Or are the other inhabitants carriers?

yep, only option is to remove and QT them all. and FYI, the period of time to run fallow is 72 days to ensure the parasite runs its complete life cycle. they can stay in the cyst stage for a long time.

Thanks for the help. I set my QT tank up today and purchased some cupramine. Its a simple 20L, 300gph powerhead, and emperor biowheel powerfilter. I had plans to set one up for some time now so I've had a couple of filterpads in my sump to help seed the QT. I also did a large water change on my DT today so I used that water for the QT as well.
Im assuming my other fish (falco and fuzzy dwarf) have built some resistance towards the parasite. Is ich harmful to those fish not exhibiting symptoms?

While my tank is fallow, I assume it would not hurt to shut off the sump and skimmer and simply run a large powerhead and heater in the tank? In order to keep beneficial bacteria alive should I simply ghost feed? I do have some nassarius and tropheus snails in the tank to help keep things going.
Ich is still probably present, living in the gills, even though no symptoms are present. When conditions are right, they can multiply quickly and breakout.

Probably would be better to keep the tank running as usual while fallow, but I suppose it won't hurt anything to turn off those parts of the system.
Yes, just ghost feed approximately half to the full amount you would feed your fish if they were still in there. Bacteria will thrive.

As pinnatus stated, Ich is still present. Resistance just means the fish will battle off major infestations that cover their body. Having just a few parasites on the fish won't hurt it or likely even bother it in the least. So, where it may not always be harmful to the fish, it will still act as a carrier that could cause harm to other/future fish.
Thanks for all of your help. The fish were all put in the quarantine tank yesterday. I figured I would give them 24 hours before I dosed with the curpramine. Unfortunately, the tang didn't make it. The fuzzy and falco are still going strong though. I'm not really sure why the tang died, when I put him in the QT he had very few if any white spots and seemed fine. It almost seems that the stress of putting him in the QT killed him, as all parameters are fine.
