Ich Medication

Are t here any effective ich medications that are reef safe? I think my midas blennie might have ich and I'm having one heck of a time catching him to get him into my quarantee tank. Also in the main tank with the blennie are 2 royal grammas, 2 oscellaris clowns and 1 purrple firefish, so even if I do catch the blennie I think I might want to treat the tank as a precaution.

I blended up garlic and ginger and soaked the food in the liquid part. Plus I bought some Seachem Metronidazole and sprinkled it on the food. I also got a pair of neon gobies. It seamed to take care of my problem. It's been months since I've seen any signs of it. I was told that the only way to cure it was to remove all the fish, but that wasn't an option for me. Only 1 fish had very minor signs, so it may have just kicked it on it's own.

If you can't get the fish out, you could try the above. I would try the Metronidazole, because after a couple weeks of that is when the ich cycles comletely dissappeared. Just my experience and good luck.

I imagine if garlic and Metronidazole took care of your Gobies problem, it wasn't ich..:)

The so called 'reef safe' products are hit and miss...some have had luck with them, others not..Most of the time, once you stop dosing the reefsafe meds, the ick returns..I would not want to place any chemicals in a reef, especially long term..
Only proven methods if you really want to get rid of ich is copper or Hypo in a quarantine and a fallow main

Game started off a little scary, but I was happy with the outcome;)
Your not a Jacksonville fan?

The fish that had ich was my Watanabei Angel, not the goby. It did have ich. It had it very slightly (about 10 little spots). They would get bigger and then gone. They would dissappear for about a week before I'd see them again. It never got bad, always about 10 - 15 spots. It lasted for a month and wasn't going away with just the garlic and ginger. I also added a Neon Goby. So, when I got back from vacation, I got the Seachem Metronidazole. After a while of adding it to the food every day it went away and hasn't returned and it's been months. Not sure exactly what cured it, but it was probalby the Metronidazole. And it certainly appeared to be ich. Metronidazole is supposed to cure ich if the fish eats enough. I just recommend giving it a try if you can't get all the fish out. I won't dose it in the water, just feed it.

I thought that you were supposed to only add Metronidazole to the water? You fed it? How much did you use per feeding and how did you do so? Thanks again

I have heard of using Bay leaves, cilantro, cumin, nutmeg, onion, saffron and tumerac. I believe they do the same as garlic and ginger...

Yes, I fed the fish the Metronidazole. I called Seachem and they said I should sprinkle it on the food. I would slightly moisten some Prime Reef Flakes w/grounded garlic extract. Then I just sprinkled some of the Metro. on it. I was told by Seachem that it would be hard to overdose them. I didn't use that much.

I fed it to them for about a month, maybe a little longer. I also used the Garlic extract. And I did notice the Neon Goby riding on the side of the fish and pecking. So, not sure exactly what worked or if the fish just beat it on it's own. Just glad it's gone.

I will do the same now... I have 2 pairs of Neon Gobies as well, they do their thing and clean but i am not sure that they will quel the issue. I think the meds will do so, and I also feed my fish every day food soaked in Garlic Xtreme...

I have tried everything out on the market and either it just doesn't work or I get adverse effects to my corals. I tried Blue Lagoons anti parasite food and my fish love it and it helped with my ick problem the spots started to dissapear shortly after feeding it to my fish. Now the ick is gone and I have started feeding them the regular food that they make.
Try their products you won't regret it.
