Ich on Tangs

update: i have all my fish in a 60 gallon gt tank. my bro had the tank and wasnt' using it! the cupramine seems to have helped the blue tangs ALOT. I hardly see white dots anymore. So I should still leave my DT fishless for 10 more weeks? So the fish will stay in the QT tank for 10 weeks also? Do I change all the water in the DT before I put the fish back? Should I leave the temp in the DT around 78-80 still, with no fish and only shrimps?

Yes, leave the DT fishless for 10 weeks and leave all your fish in QT for 10 weeks. It is very important that you do this. Your DT still has active Ich parasites in it, even without the fish. What you are doing by leaving the DT fishless for 10 weeks is starving all of those parasites to death. No fish = no food for the Ich parasites = They all starve to death. Unfortunately, it can take 9-10 weeks to be 100% certain they have all starved. No need to change any water before putting the fish back in. However, add a tiny pinch of flake food every other day to the DT to keep the bacteria going in your LR/sand. Leave the temp the same, everything the same in the DT.

I would treat all your fish in QT with Cupramine for one full month. Then do WCs/run carbon to take all the Cupramine out. After that, just observe them for another 6 weeks. Be 100% certain no white dots come back. Monitor your ammonia continuously while they are in QT and do WCs as needed. Treat all replacement WC water with Cupramine.

Purchase a fish trap...any one will do as they all operate the same way(trapped door with fishing line attached). Place the trap in the tank and let the fish get used to it. Then donet feed the fish for about 4 days, then bait your trap...this is what I did and caught all my fish out of my 400 gal reef tank. Patience is a must...don't try and close the door the 1st time they are in, wait for the second or third time.

Came home last night and noticed that the yellow angel was a goner. i guess it isn't as tolerant as the others to the Cupramine. the others are eating and seem healthy. only 7 more weeks to go!

Hurricane force winds in San Gabriel Wed and Thur night. knocked out power to everything. Got power back this morning. Tank was at 57 degrees. Black and whites gone. Maroon gone. Hippo tangs gone. wrasse gone. Only one that looks like it'll survive is the yellow tang.
