looks like it, hippo's are notoriously susceptible to ich. what are all those bubbles from, do you have an outbreak of cyano bacteria (red slime)? copper treatment for fish only, no inverts or live rock!

are those black spots or white spots? Look's to be black ich. I've heard of them but not too sure if treatment for them are the same as regular ich.

The spots are turning black it seems. I just recently moved(Saturday actually) and cleaned my protein skimmer so now it is producing micro bubbles. They are gathering on everything and I had an outbreak of green algae when I tried treating the ick a week ago with this supposedly reef safe ich treatment. Kordons. I had to sut the skimmer off and bam, algae took over so when the lights are on(two 150w MH) the algae produces alot of oxygen and gathers bublbes. I hate the micro bubbles they make my tank look cloudy. Needless to say, I think the move prolly stressed him out more and thats why they got really bad recently. I stopped the treatment to get the protein skimmer back on and I am treating with food soaked in garlic incuding flakes and Nori seaweed. What different type of treatment do you do for black ich?

I finished quarantining a powder brown tang not to long ago. From the start I noticed it had black ich and it was a pain to get rid of. If he isn't in quarantine already I would say to move him into one and do formaline fresh water baths every other day or so. Try to keep him in there for about 5 minutes if you can but if he starts to lay down or look week put him into the quarantine tank. You are going to want to clean his quarantine tank out comepletely. You might even want to rub the tank down with vinegar to kill any extra bacteria and wash it. There are no medications for it so this would be your safest bet.

OOk... I don't have a qt tank... I do have a spare ten gallon but I used that for freshwater... if I set that up as the qt, what equipment will I need? Will a regular filter work such as the one from my freshwater, jus buy a new pad?

Please keep in mind that the hippo is still eating fine and not gasping for air like the description for ich describes...

Yes your fresh water filter will be fine because you should be doing a complete water change every time you do the fresh water dip which means you shouldn't have nitrite or ammonia build up. My tang seemed fine except for the spots on him, he ate fine and was breathing fine also. Make sure your fresh water is at the right Ph because i had to adjust mine ever dip by using baking soda.

You might not even need a filter pad because you will be changing out the water so often. Just make sure he has some hiding spots. I use PVC tubing in my quarantine setups.

Best of luck getting rid of it.

I don't trust any of the ich treatments they sell out there. Seems like a waste of money to me. I soak my food in garlic guard, focus and metro for about 2 weeks and the ich ever came back. I still soak their food in that stuff once or twice a week just to keep anything from coming back.
