ICH or something else?

Just as title says. Just need to verify that this is ich and not something else. I've lost a flame angel and my helfrichi firefish is missing.

Yea he's breathing heavy and laying on his side. He's not gonna make it through the night. That's a $225 loss of fish in less than 2 weeks.

Never had to in the 10 years I've been in this hobby. I know it's not smart. It's dumb on my part. I'm cycling a qt now. It's only a 10 gallon. It's the best I can do for now.

it happens. anyways sorry for loss and i hope rest pulls through fast.
u dont have to wait to cycle a qt.
place the fish in qt and do water changes daily to keep ammonia at bay. ich can kill fish fast so i would start treating quick.

Happens every time. I hope others can learn from your experience. Check Craigslist; you can probably find everything you need for a bigger QT on the cheap. A whole lot less than the $225 you just lost.

Yeah, don't waste time, and all of the fish in that tank need to be treated. Your whole system has ich, not just the tang.

He's in bad shape. I'm having a hard time getting him out of my DT. When I get him in QT what do you recommend doing? Meds?

I have a clown with no spots at all. He looks healthy as can be.

i would go either cupramine or hypo. if u dont have cupramine or copper test kit then hypo. start dropping salinity and in 48 hrs get if down to 1.009 and hold it steady there. ATO will help.
keep Sg 1.009 for as long as all the ich has fallen off the fish and also unseen ich in gills has disappeared (breathing will get back to normal). leave hypo 2 week past this point then slowly raise the salinity to match dt.
Remember dropping SG is not as dangerous as increasing it so take ur time and do it over full week or longer. u have all the time as ur DT has to run fishless for 10-12 weeks.

I do hypo on every new fish i get ,,right out of the shipping bags(they usually are shipped in lower salinity ,depending where you get them)..
you can acclimate them to hypo conditions in about 6 hours ..I have never lost a fish by doing this ..I even go down to 1.008,,keep the fish in this salinity for 28 days ,,like said above ,raising it up must be done very slowly,,,.001 a day ...
Also ,a smaller QT (40 or under) will need constant monitoring ,,every 10 -12 hours for evaporation ..Draw a line on the tank at the proper water level for 1.008 and top off as often as needed to keep it there at all times ..
Hypo is not hard and i have never had a loss or an ich outbreak after doing it..
Good luck

First, read the first page or so of the ich stickies at the top of the diseaes forum. You have to understand this parasite if you are to beat it. Your whole system has ich, not just the one fish.

Unfortunately the hippo didn't make it. No one to blame but myself. I feel terrible. Only fish left is my clown and he is healthy as anything. No signs of ich at all. I will be taking him out and putting him in QT. then my DT stays fallow for 12 weeks. So damn depressing! I almost quit but I'm not letting this stop me. My QT matches my DT parameters. Should I make changes before putting the clown in there? I'd rather not use copper if I can avoid. Maybe prazi pro and monitor the clown for a few weeks? I've read a lot about ich. I understand my DT is infected. I only wish I quarantined from the start.

Unfortunately this is a lesson many of us, including myself have to learn the hard way ..I lost quite a bit of fish about 7 years ago when i first ventured into saltwater ..
The clown must be treated ,either hypo or copper ..I never used copper but have done hypo countless times ..Prazi pro is a great product but does nothing for ich

I will give hypo a try. I hope I do it right. I'm following the instructions on the sticky here. Thanks everyone for your help!

How long did the blue hippo live after you noticed the spots?

I noticed a few spots which had disappeared within 24 hours of acclimating him to my DT. They went away for a few days and then came back. He was fighting and eating really well through it all. So i would have to say about 10 days from when it returned but the last 3 days before he died he was in bad shape. I feel so bad. From now on I QT everything I buy. Lesson learned!! Im looking into a bigger QT. May grab a 40 breeder and set that up.
