I tried hyposalinity and managed to drop down the level to 1.007 for 3 weeks then returned the level back to normal. Its been back to 1.027 for 3 days now and all of a sudden all the fish are re infected and the blue tang is not eating anymore. Can you guys tell me where I went wrong? I wouldnt mind doing this again but I am seriously thinking of using copper now since I think that is the faster way of killing ich. Also, the tank these fish were has 7 different shrimps. Ich can infect shrimp right? I am sure the free swimming ich has died now? Thanks

Hi New..

What happended probably was that your guys were not completely rid of the pathogen and needed to be treated longer.

1.027 in my opinion is a little high for SG. Natural seawater is 1.025 and I have personally 1.022 in my FOWLER.

I take it you had a bad infection?

Copper is NOT safe for inverts. it will kill them and if you use it in your main tank you will probably never be able to house inverts in there again becuase it can leech into rocks or even the silicone seams and then leach back out over time.

If you want to use copper then do it in a QT again..
