Ich Question : Moving Fish to a New Tank

Hello everyone! We have an existing 46g bowfront that has several fish in it, as well as an Ich problem. We just set up a new 90 Gal that is cycling now. The general plan is to move most of the livestock from the 46 to the 90. We figured this would be a perfect time to try to rid the 46 of the ich, so a move of all of the fish in the 46 for a time is in order. My question is threefold:

1. Is a freshwater dip prior to transferring the fish to the new tank enough to ensure that we're not going to just transfer the ich to the new tank?

2. We have a Rose and a Condy in the tank to move as well. Will they transfer ich? If so, can you dip those guys or will that kill them?

3. How long should we wait before transferring the few fish that will go back to the 46?

Sorry for the long-winded questions, but one stumbles upon another. Thanks for the input!

In my opinion, no a FW dip won't be enough. They parasite has a stage to go through and that takes about 28 days.

1) FW Dips will do nothing for Ich....
2) Move the inverts to your new tank first (when it is ready). Leave them in there without fish for 6-8 weeks. Any Ich hitchhikers will be eliminated in this period because they will not have a fish host to feed from and survive.
3) Put all fish in a separate QT with Hyposalinity treatment for 6-8 weeks (perhaps in your existing 46 Bow after all inverts are removed). After this QT period it will be safe to the fish in the new system and the Ich will have been eliminated.

Anything wet can transfer ick. If you move your fish or corals over there will be ick present. That is an awfully young tank to be adding corals/anemone's to. You could cycle the tank then add your fish and hypo them over there for 6-8weeks, then raise the sg back and you won't have ick in either tank. Your old tank will be fallow for 6-8weeks and the ick will all die.

When setting up your new tank just run it as a hypo tank ... leave the live rock, inverts etc in the old tank and move the fish into the hypo tank. After a month the old tank (without any fish will be ich free) ... then raise the salinity of the "new" tank and move the live rock and inverts over.

That's what I would do... put all the fish in the 90 at 1.019 - 1.010. Let the coral and rock sit fallow in the old for a month (I like 6 weeks) while slowly raising the salinity by no more than 0.002 a day in the 90 with the fish in it after 3 weeks.
