I've been searching the forums and google and Im confused as how to treat the typical marine ich.
The options and comments I've seen:
-Rise temperature to 86 F (I know this wont work alone, it just speeds the cycle, oxygen level will drop so you should take extra care with your water flow)
- Hyposalinity to 1.009 - 1.010 or (1.019 for 1 month) I have tried 1.019 in the past with good results, although many argue is best to keep the salinity found in the ocean 1.025 because of loss in nutrients for the fish. Others stated 1.018 -1.019 will kill all inverts, including parasites if kept like this for a month. LiveAquaria always delivers water with 1.019, but others will say that they do this to save on salt. But isn't it more costly to lose the specimens?
I haven't tried 1.009 because I'm afraid it will be too much stress for all the fish.
- Copper treatment: I think this one is the best, but since I can only raise it to 15 ppm because of the flame angel, I don't know if it will be enough?
- Malachite treatment I'm not sure if I got the name correct, but I dont like this one because it colors the water and smells really bad.
- UV Filters- I have a big UV Filter but I have it connected to a 500 Gallon per hour pump, which I think will not eliminate completely the parasite.
Would a mix of all of them work better?
Im thinking of
-raising the temp to 34 (not 36)
-drop the salinity to 1.019 for 3 months
- Since I cannot have UV Filter on with copper which should be better? 15ppm of copper, or UV Filter on?
Thank you so much,
Jose.
I have a 130 gallon thank (fish only)
My parameters right now:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5
Temperature 83 F
Salinity 1.019
PH 8.1
Fish:
1 Naso Tang Blonde
1. Queen Angel
1. Angel Flame
1. Bicolor Angel
1. Moorish Idol
1. Blue Tang
1. Clarki Clown
1. Blue Spotted Jaw Fish
1. Engenier Goby
1. Powder Blue
All fish are small in size. All are eating, but I see some of them scratching themselves to the rock and I can also see a few white spots
I also have a 10g quarantine thank, but I had better success in the past treating with copper the hole 130g thank. But this time I have a angel flame that does not allow more than 15 ppm of copper (stated in liveaquaria.com)
