Ich Treatment

Hey, new to the Reef hobby. I have a simple 40 gallon with a few invertebrates and Clowns that have had Ich for about a week. All water levels are normal. I place my fish into a hospital tank with Copper. Does anyone know specifically how long it will take for the Ich to die off? I've heard 7 weeks, is this correct?

Thanks

These threads are for "Forum" feedback and questions. Look at some of the "Stickeys" in Disease, New to hobby, Reef, etc. Oh and the answer to your question is 72-90 days.
Welcome.

when I used copper a long time ago, I believe I left the hospital tank at the therapeutic level for about 4 weeks. Meanwhile the display tank needs to remain fish less or fallow for 72 days.

IT is highly advised to test the copper level to make sure it stays at the treatment level. If the level falls below then it may not get rid of the ich. If it gets to high then it can kill the fish. Good luck just my 2 cents.

I would not use copper..

I would qt and do hypo salinity then raise the temp .. Lower salinity kills the parasite.. Raised temp increased the parasites Life cycle speeding up killing the parasite..

There are different recommendation on this and for different fish .. Just google hypo-salinity treatment for (fish name here)

there is also TTM... Tank Transfer Method.....
But remember the tank will still have ich... you have to leave it fishless long enough for the parasite to die off due to no host this is usually 72 day...

Good Luck

Personally I'm not a fan of hypo. Allegedly there are some strains that are hypo resistant plus it's vital that you monitor your SG closely since allowing it to raise (even briefly) can reset the clock.

If it were me I'd do TTM or treat with cupramine.

I'd also suggest you take a look in the fish disease forum since there's literally posts like this there everyday.
