hi every one let me know if i am ok i have had my powder blue for 5 monthes i qt him for 4 weeks. when i got home today he has ich really bad my tank is 150 mixed reef. i got some kick ich cause i canot catch him is it going to work or am i going to lose fish please help thank you every one

Hi there. Been lurking for a while looking , ans I decided to join after I found this thread.
I'll post my tank in the appropriate forum, but I have had two Ich outbreaks so far. I have 3 tangs: a purple, a naso, and a tennenti. Two weeks ago, my purple tang got covered with about 2 dozen of the white spots, and two days ago my tennenti got it. They both survived, and both seem to be doing fine now. My LFS says the cleaner shrimps prolly cleaned them up.
I do have a 14 gal QT, but it can't contain all my fish. Anything other than buying a second BIG tank to make a hospital tank? I got a UV steriilizer and Chem Marin Stop Parasites coming via UPS next week. Will these treat my anxiety more than actually treating the fish?

I know I got those flagellated zoites swimming or waiting to hatch just looking to burrow again into tang flesh.
Question is, what now? I don't have a big enough QT to quarantine all my fish for 6-10 weeks (3 tangs, 4 clowns, 1 mandarin, 1 firefish). Can't afford another big tank to act as a quarantine tank. I've got all the literature on hyposalinity treatment, even some formalin dip I've set up , but no sense in treating just the affected fish 'cuz he'll just go back to an infected tank. I'm left with using a UV sterilzer and a "reef safe" medication, unless someone can show me the better way with what I've got or can get.

Sorry to rant here......But if you can't set up a large enough tank to properly treat what you have then there is really nothing you can do.
UNLESS you want to make your tank a FO and treat with copper in your tank. That means removing all corals and inverts and just have a tank with rock and fish.
Reef safe stuff does not work...................

+1.... Do not waist your money on Reef Safe Ich Medications.... None of them work... Its actually amazing to me there are still so many on the market.... The U.V. sterilizer may help keep the population low, but won't stop the parasite. Although they are a great piece of equipment to have. You will HAVE to set up a Proper QT.... If you only have those 3 Tangs a 40 Breeder should be fine, or you can look for a used 55, you can find those all the time for pretty cheap.... Just be sure your QT has properly cycled and you have plenty of biological media...Good luck

Another option is to put your coral and inverts in another tank and run hypo-salinity on your display. After your treatment you can return the coral to the tank. I think hypo will kill your biological filtration so you will have to watch water quality.

Sorry Andy99. Didn't mean to hijack your thread. I think we were looking for the same answers, right? Right now all my tangs seem to be doing fine despite what looked like speckled white coat. I'm a noob, but it seems that they can survive Ich infestation with nothing more than benign neglect and good water quality. I hope yours does, too.

UV sterilizer arrived yesterday and up an running today. Awaiting flow-meter to fine tune flow rate. Should be here tom. Two big bottles of Chem Marin Stop Parasites will decorate the top of my tank unopened to remind me of my noob-ness as I go hunt for a cheap used 55 gal proper hospital tank and filtration system to augment my 14 gal QT/new arrival tank.
Man! This hobby is more expensive than a mistress!!!! Good thing it's just as much fun (almost)
