I recently bought a pair of tomato clown and they have ich, or at least it looks like ich.
I treated them using the tank transfer method, each in its own tank for the most part. Transfer occurs every 1-2 days. All equipments are sterilized with boiling water.
After a few days there are no more external symptoms, I thought they must be gone. I continued the process. At the 9th days, 1 of the clown (the other 1 is fine) is again covered in white specks. This got me scratching my head.
1. Is there some ich strain that complete its cycle in under 2 days? Or it stayed on the fish for longer than 9 days?
2. Is this ich at all? Are there other parasites that look like the classic ich white specks?
3. The obvious question is, is the sterilization thorough? I am quite careful in submerging all nets, airline tubing, and tanks with water that is still boiling and make sure that even things outside of waterline are sterilized, and then dried.
