ich

Posts: 3I have a problem with ich in my old tank that has coral and fish. Im Just setting up a new tank that is going through cycle 8ft x 2ft x 28in with new sand and new live rock and base rock. Now what is the best way of transfering all fish and corals but making sure I don't get ich in the new tank? Should I transfer all corals first? Only fish in current tank showing signs of ich is the blue tang. It has had it several times but it doesn't seem to bother it. Fish in tank are.
1x Blue tang
1 x scopas tang
1 x six line wrasse
1 x flame angel
1 x emporer angel
2 x clown fish
1 x naso tang
1 x bristle tooth tang*

If I were in your situation, I would move the fish to a dedicated (or possibly multiple, depending on the size of the fish/tank) QT and treat them with a copper product like Cupramine for 4 weeks. You can do this while your tank is cycling. For the corals, I would house them in a separate QT (or keep them in your existing DT) for 12 weeks to make sure that any existing ich cysts have died off in absence of a fish host.

This actually works in your favor, since you need to allow your new tank to cycle, and you can gradually add the fish without taxing the biofilter too much. Once you have it stocked, the QT period for the corals will be complete and you can add them to the tank.

I was thinking that I should move corals, live rock and inverts to new tank and treat all the fish together in old display tank and wait for ten weeks before transferring fish? Would this work?

Your new tank isn't cycled yet, how can you move the corals and inverts over to it?
From my understanding, corals need a mature tank to thrive in. I would do what Deinonych suggested.

The only problem with doing it that way is that I would have to purchase a couple more tanks for the fish and stressing them out while I try to catch them which will not be easy without removing all live rock and corals first.

IMO if you've been dealing with the ich thus far, then once the new tank is cycled move coral, rock and such over from the old tank. Throw out the old sand bed. Then treat the fish with Cu. The main thing to worry about will be ammonia. Make sure established media is present when treating the fish. I prefer sponge filters, and Bio Spira route.

I also have a sump with refugium with miracle mud skimmer and chiller. and cucumber and starfish in display tank + hundreds of snails. am I safe to move these over with the live rock and corals to the new tank when cycle is complete? then leave the new tank without fish for 12 weeks and treat my old tank.
also is it a good idea to take the sump offline on old tank whilst treating? all of this is starting to hurt my head.

Before treating the old tank, all macro, inverts, aragonite need to be removed. Best to get other filter mediaestablished and clear out the old tank of any debris.
