ich!

Oh no - I think my powder brown has ich. Are there any reef safe treatments. I have too much rock to get him out.

I was exited to see my cleaner wrasse was giving the tang a lot of attention but then I read that the ich beasties live under the skin.

Ive used Kordon Ich Attack in the past with success BUT you have to catch it in the early stages and start treating ASAP. I got my bottle of it at petco

Raising temp helps (speeds cycle of the bug, as you want the free swimming thats more effected by meds ) if you don't have temp sensitive corals or fish

Just dosed with some Kordon. I'm kinda sick about this. Maybe it will at least act as a prophylactic for my other fish. I've used my nano as a coral overflow tank. If I treat with copper in there, I can never use it for that again, can I?

I've been reading the fish disease forum - depressing and no fun at all. I've been doing this reefing thing for 6-7 years and I've never had to deal with any bad stuff. Now I'm leaving town for two weeks in a couple of days and leaving my critter in crisis.

Is there much point trying to get my tang out if I could? Isn't my system infected? All other fish look fine. The tang is spotty but has a huge appetite and acting normal.

Has anyone used copper in a tank and later (after washing etc) kept inverts or corals in it?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but if you have silicone seals on the tank anywhere it won't be able to be used again later if you use copper and this is due to the silicone absorbing the copper and then basically forever leaching it back out. I don't know if that could be stopped or not but this is what I've read.

My one clown and my powder brown are the ones with spots. I have 5 other guys/gals in there. I just pulled out an old 10g and filled it with water to see if it holds.

Marcie at Fishy Biz recommended metronidazole the other day but I'm not sure where to get it.

I've had success with this but I had my fish in a QT for two weeks. It was one clown and one Blue hippo. I got this at desert pet on 22nd. I treat all my fish with it before I put them in the display and have not had a problem since. I do have a mixed reef so I was scared to put it into the main tank.

API General cure is pretty much Metro, they have it at petsmart I believe. Not a drug I've ever used for ich but I've heard of it being used by someone once before. Not sure the outcome. Metro is usually used as a dewormer for saltwater fish.

Most would recommend removing all your fish and treating them in a seperate tank while leaving your display fish less for eight weeks. Ive treated ich many times and my treatment of choice is cupermine(copper), but it requires a seperate tank and a cycled sponge filter. I have a seeded sponge if you decide to go that route.

Formalin is a known treatment that works well for ich, I don't have have any experience with it myself but now I'm glad to know where to get it :)

Formalin is a heck of treatment and should be used very carefully because it contains chemicals that are known to be carcinogens. Formalin is most effective with Brooklynella hostilis aka Clownfish Disease but I could see its use for Ich. I had to order my bottle of Formalin online because I could not find it locally. A product that is easily available here in town is the Mardel Coppersafe which has worked miracles for me in the past.

If it was my tang and clownfish I would get a 29 gallon tank at Petco ($1/gallon tank sale on now), a hang on the back filter, and a heater to start my hospital tank asap.

Best of luck

P.s. Formalin is NOT reef safe
