how can you tell if a fish has ich are they very small almost micro white dots? will a fish get rid of it or does he have to leave the tank? i was told they will get rid of it on their own, or will he infect the whole crew of fish?

Yes

No

No

Yes

Hope that helped :)

Call me tomorrow and we will talk about it Steve

One way to try and erradicate it from your tank is to pull every fish out and into a hospital tank while you leave the display fallow for 6 - 8 weeks. Others decide to live with it and try to keep their fish very healthy so that they can hopefully fend off the parasite. Going fallow in the display and treating the fish in the hospital tank with hyposalinity has worked best for me.

im not sure if its ich but i dont have a quarantine tank setup yet either,it looks like if it is so the coral beauty is the only one who has it,should i just pull him and put him in a bucket? with a pump and some medicine?

If you see it on a fish, its in the tank. Ich is a parasite thats life cycle takes it from the water column to the fish, so if you see it on the fish, its in the water, the sand, the rock, etc

If you take all fish from the tank for 6-8 weeks there are not any host fish for the parasite to reproduce on so it dies off in the tank.

Only sure fire way to get it out of the tank.

all my fish arent itching they are all eating like hogs,no scratching,i dont want an empty tank for 6 weeks or i will just make it an empty tank all together, man i finally find something i love to do and now here we go,i looked at all the fish and just the beauty has it,im almost tempted to flush him for ruining things for me j/k but i will put him in a bucket

Do NOT take him out and put him in a bucket

Ich is made worse by stress on a fish. Leave him in the tank. Healthy fish that eat well can beat it with no problem. You may want to mix some fresh crushed garlic in with your meaty foods you are feeding them as they MAY be a natural way to fight ich, the jury is out on it, but it has worked for me

I stopped trying to treat for ich. I put Garlic and Vitamins on the fish food, about 20-30 minutes before feeding and watch my water quality. Once I started doing this, My fish stopped getting Ich. Good Husbandry always wins out.

i went out and took a break from the tank and feel much better, what vitamins and stuff do i mix in,the fresh garlic is cut and dry but what vitamins do i add?

I use vita-chem, for a while I used Zoe and Zoecon. I switched to Vita-chem because it is suppose to be derived from natural sources (but who really knows). That has worked good for me, also make sure you vary your food. I have spectrum pellets, formula 2 flakes, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, prime reef, formula one/two cubes, clam's, and cyclo is added bi-weekly to their food. Also, with a Moorish Idol, bristletooth tang, Naso, Magnificent Foxface and a soon to be added Orange Shoulder, I have to put Algae in the tank daily for the fish.

I use vita-chem soaked on food for 20 minutes. It keeps all of the other fish healthy and helps boost the immune system of the sick fish. I also bought a neon goby to pick the ich of the sik fish. It took a few weeks but the fish (a purple tang) got better. But the fish was healthy to begin with too. It was just moved from my old tank to a new set up. At the worst the fish looked really bad, but it eventually faught the ich off.

Did you quarantine the new fish for a few weeks when you got it? It makes it easier to treat if ich or another parasite develops. It's common for new angels and tangs to develop ich.

i use some M-somethingsomething. it comes in a vial. recommended to me by MS. i was battling ich for 4 weeks. this stuff soaked onto a shrimp cube every other day cleared all my fish up in 4 days.
totally totally recommend it.

Metrodiazadole. It works better with focus. Almost like a fluffy gel that makes everything stick togather so it stays on the food after being added to the tank.

I had an issue a long time ago with a blue hippo. I had the fish about 4 or 5 months and when I did a major caulerpa pruning it stressed him out and there it was. I did metro in the food, also did the instructions for the metro in the water column as well. I also did garlic on the food and 1 drop per 10 gallons every day to the tank water. I continued on for 1 month and it never came back. My powder brown is showing some so I'm doing it again now. Also the cleaner shrimp and neon goby help which I didn't have last time either.

well it sounds like im not the only one whos had ich,i am gonna go to the store and get me some vitamins after work, and some of that something something, thank you all for helping it is much appreciated

How long have you had it. I normaly let it ride if it is a good fish it will bet it.

Agreed. If your fish are healthy they will beat it. Just watch your water quality.
