Ichfest 2015 or Something Else?

I don't understand how a parasite could lie dormant in a tank for 4 months at reef temperature. Anything is possible, I guess.

Uronema does not require a host to survive so there are parasites that can go on indefinitely without hosts. I'm sure there are others that we just don't know about as well and knowing my luck i probably have one of them. Trust me i feel your frustration.

Not that it matters much at this point, but I never had any success treating crypto with CP. Without proper measurement tools or test kits, it's almost impossible to know whether you are maintaining therapeutic dosage. And, there is speculation that some of the bacteria in our tanks break down CP.

CP is the recommended treatment for velvet. The problem with CP in crypto treatment are whether therapeutic dosage is maintained for a long enough time since the back end of the crypto life cycle is so variable. We know that light can break down CP and as mentioned above, bacteria may also degrade it.

Yeah, that is a real tough one. That is why I suggest avoiding chromis and why a rigorous quarantine protocol is essential.

This is a good point. Only ~1% of all oceanic species are known at this time, so there is no question that there are protozoa, archaea and other microorganisms that have not been classified. Heck, we know more about the moon than we do about our oceans. :)

Geeeez. That's awful. I've heard of that one but don't know much about it. I hope it works out.

I agree that we have much to learn about the ocean and its inhabitants, good and bad.

TTM only works for crypto

Oh yeah, I forgot. I'll update soon after the TTM process.

The survivors:
Ocellaris clownfish
Green clown goby
Yellow clown goby
Solon fairy wrasse
Melanurus wrasse

Casualties
Flame angel
Tomini tang
Royal gramma
Ocellaris clownfish
Yellow tang

RIP :mad::mad:

TTM completed today. The remaining survivors are doing well and are in a 29 gallon quarantine tank in another room. Should I treat them with a couple of rounds of Prazi? Should I treat with CP too?

Several of you mentioned that 72 days fallow for the DT might not be enough for crypto. Should I go for 90 days? Thanks!

Since ich does not require visible symptoms to be present, what would be accomplished?

Well how else is microlady going to find out if the DT is disease free? What else would you suggest? Trust me, if crypto is still in there it will come out one way or another if enough time is allowed to pass.

Well, I would hope that the TTM eliminated it, and I would rather them show symptoms in the QT than in the DT. If free swimming forms are in the DT water after 72 days, and I expose my fish to them, they will probably show some symptoms.

Do you think it could lie dormant more than 90 days either on the fish or in the DT? I was hoping to add the fish back after 72 days, but some other members have me confused about the time frame.

Could someone please answer my questions? Should I treat the fish with CP?

Thanks

That is what I was thinking too.

I'm another fan of 12 weeks fallow for crypto.

I wouldn't treat with CP in addition to TTM. If done properly TTM will eradicate the parasite. Observe them in QT for the remainder of the fallow period and watch for possible secondary infection.

Sounds good!
