Ick and Brook - Help Needed

I have a pair of clows in my 22 gallon reef tank. Last week the larger of the 2 clowns came down with ick. Not having the space for a QT I had to treat the tank with medication (Kordon Ick Attack since it was 100% organic and "reef/invert" safe). Sadly she passed since it was too late to save her. Right around that time the other clown got some ick as well. I have been treating the tank for the past few days and it doesnt seem to be getting better. I will be upping the dose tonite in hopes of getting it taken care of.

However, I believe the poor clown also has a touch of Brook (a white haze over the body, the gills just dont look right, etc). I went out today and got some Formalin-3. I will be doing a dip tonite, thursday and saturday if the fish makes it.

What I want to know is .. should the clown not pull through ... I know I can leave the tank running (fishless) and the Ick will die w/o a host fish .. what about the Brook?

I would be more than willing to let the tank sit for 4 weeks while the diseases go away.

The parasites that cause Brooklynella have no free-swimming stage. That means, if you remove the fish that has the disease, the disease is no longer in the aquarium.

All anemonefishes should be treated for Brooklynella when the aquarist first acquires the fish. The disease is so prevalent that treatment for it should be routine on all newly acquired anemonefishes.

I would add, although you did not solicit the opinion, that the tank you have for this pair is too small. A pair of mated anemonefishes should have a space no less than 4 or 5 cubic feet to 'defend' and 'feel at home.' You'd want at least over a 35 gallon tank to make them more at ease, with no more than one or two tankmates to 'stress them.'

Sadly enough the little one didnt make it and passed last night ... so the tank will sit with just the corals and shrimp for a good month to make sure the Ick is gone as well.

We only had the 2 clowns (osc), 1 cleaner shrimp, and 1 pep shrimp -- no other fish to really bother them
