Just started browsing this site and I love it!! I have a question to throw out there for some responses..I have been in this hobby for a long time but never nailed down this idea!! The question is, if a tank gets infected with ick from a single fish and the fish lives or dies AND the other fish do NOT get ick(for some strange reason) is it safe to assume that after 8 weeks the ick is gone from the system??? Or is it possible for the other fish to be carrying the ick with no visible signs of the ick..... Thanks for any thoughts.....

intresting question. IMO once ich gets into your system it will always be present waiting for that one weak fish to attack. healthy fish can ward off this parasite however weak or cronically stressed fish will be suseceptible to this disease. short of removing all your fish from the display and letting it sit for 8 wks it is very difficult to kill but you can keep it in check through maintaining good water quailty, reducing stress on your fish, keep them healthy by feeding a good diet and using uv can also help by killing the free swimming phase of the parsite
That is what I was thinking too!! I have had fish with ich and survived the parasite. They never were re-infested again. But any other fish put in the same tank (after qt for 3 weeks) would sure enough get ich and usually die. Now I'm talking about a 300 gal tank with tons of rock and impossible to take all the fish out and let sit for 8 weeks. The same problem came back to haunt me again with my new 100 gal reef set-up.. I have some clowns and chromis that are ich-free but a flame angel that has ich. I really don't want to disturb my anemone's to try to catch the clowns that live in them.. Just wishful thinking I guess that the healthy fish won't carry the disease!!!(after 8 weeks with no signs of ich.. Any other thoughts???
