Ick question

If I add any fish to my system within 2 days it is covered in ick and will die a few weeks later. I know I need to get all my fish out of my system and start over. I am thinking of going to fish only system.

1. If I drain my tank, keep my sand and live rock and refill my tank will all the Ick be gone? There will be no fish in the tank but at least my snails and crabs will survive.

or

2. If I do about a 75% water change add copper will this kill all the ick? No fish will be in my system.

What would you do or is there something else better to do?

Thanks.

1. No the ich lives in the sand ect
2. Why do a water change? Just add copper and if done corecctly, after the treatment there will be no inch.
If you devote to this however, this tank is only fowlr. No corals, no inverts, nothing. And all that rock and sand will IMO forever stay this way. It is quite a dedication.

3. Set up a qt tank and treat the fish with copper and run the tank fallow for the lifecycle of inch.

I think I will do the copper treatment and then do a huge water change.

Thanks.

Why don't you try polylab's medics first, its reef safe. I've had success in many tanks. Its a little pricey, but I had 90% success rate.

I've also tried Sicce HyperCure Herbal and had a success as well. Doesn't say reefsafe on bottle, but its "all natural" without harsh chemicals. We used this on all our fish only system.

Copper works great, but depending the current condition of the fish, it can be tough on the fish. I try to stay away from copper if possible, to keep all the equipment copper free.
