I stupidly treated a fish in one of my main tanks with ick treatment not knowing the implications (obviously) so now i have learned and have a qt tank set up but i just was wondering if i have to throw everything away is it all trash live rock, substrate etc. or is there a way to recover it. I am ordering poly filters online but is it even worth it should i just trash it and start over if i want to have a more reef environment with corals, invertibrates etc.

If there are no fish in the main tank, the ich will die off because ich will only host fish. Not corals or inverts. The rock and everything will be fine once the tank has been left fishless for 4 weeks or more.

ick treatment

The ick is gone now because i treated it with ick treatment that had copper in it (the stupid part) which is why i am thinking i need to trash it all. I treated the fish or tank for 5 days and now it has been 10 days or so and they all seem fine but is the rock and everything dead now from the copper treatment. I have done several water changes 1/3 at a time to rid the medication. What do you think everything i have read says copper bad bad which i didnt know and now do.

Okay i'll trash it all and start over that was my guess bt thought i would check and see if there was anyway to fix my mistake. Costly mistake. They should put up big warning labels. Thanks

The rock would be useable still. It will just be dead but you can cook it for awhile and it will be good to use.
