Ick treatments!

The only proven ich cures are hypo, copper or tank transfer method as has been stated before. Anything else is, as yet, snake oil.

Until an unbiased third party studies that product in an extended clinical study, proves that it even kills ich and doesn't harm anything but the ich, it is still a snake oil at best just like any other miracle "reef safe" ich cure on the market.

Again, the ONLY PROVEN ich cures are hyposalinity OR copper OR tank transfer method.

Is best to do hypo for six weeks at 1.009SG after the last spot of ich is seen on any of the fish, then you can raise the salinity back up over several days.

thank you

Guy's, there's several studies that show Malachite green kills Ick, as well as Quinine sulfate. Potassium permanganate can also be effective against Ick and, all these meds can KILL YOU if not handled correctly.

You can find several scientific reports of this with a web search.

Those medications you list have been used for many years in fresh water. I have experimented with all of them extensively in salt water and find that they are fairly useless.
They may annoy ich but the fish will probably die way before any of those substances have a chance to work.

I've never used any of those meds in saltwater so you may be correct but, The studies I was refering to were done in saltwater.

Apparently you have more experience than M. Maddox on WetWebb where he suggests Quinine sulfate is the best Ick treatment he's used and it's safe for Sharks and puffers.

How long should I go without fish in my display for ich treatment. The outbreak was never bad but I want to be safe. It seems like most people are saying 6 weeks, but a few sites are saying the parasite can take up to 90 days to cycle. 3 months seems very extreme so what does everyone on here normally recommend?
