Hmm..that could or could not help. I use selcon, marine-c, and Garlic Xtreme which appears to have helped me. You can buy all three at most LFS and they are easy to add. Selcon and Garlic Xtreme you soak your food in and Marine-c you dose directly into the tank.
Garlic will help but will not cure ick. Research further and you will find that copper and hyposalinity are the two most proven methods for curing ick.
depending on the fish would pull it out of the tank and place it in a hospital tank. with good nutrition, medication and siphoning the bottom of the tank will break the parasites life cycle by removing the encapsulated phase of life before it hatcjhes and becomes infectious.
