It looks like another zoa colony recovering from some type of damage. How long has it been like this? Is it still growing and changing form or has it been like this for a while?

its always been this colour...they are healty and growing...ive had the frag about 6 months...they dont seem to open and close like the zoos do though...they always look like that
:/

I am really new to this, but I would say it is either a Zoo or a Plate of some sort. Good luck on the ID.

okay...my noobieness is showing... what do you mean by plate?

and i would love to share when they get enough of them...:)

A plate refers to any number of corals that form flat like a plate. Most frequently it refers to heliofungai sp, but I have also heard of the turbinaria and pagoda corals referred to as plates as well as monti's. It may be a turbinaria or pagoda, but these typically are hard stonies that have a skeleton, rather than encrusting a rock. Then again, maybe the rock you have is not just rock, but a pagoda coral that nearly died.

Hopefully, one of our moderators or someone with lots of reefing experience will give you a definitive answer soon.
