Can sometime tell me what this coral is?
The bigger polyp is about 4-5" in diameter.
Thanks.

All the trachyphyllia I've seen have been single poylped.
But this trachyphyllia has another head growing on the left.
anyone seen this before?

My first thought was trachyphyllia too.. but that is kind of an odd growth pattern if thats what it is. Youre probably going to have to ID this from the skeleton to have any kind of accuracy. Check out JEN Verons corals of the world- it has shots of the skeletons to help ID. or do a Google search for AIMS Trachyphyllia id and scroll through the list til you find Trachs to compare skeletons.

On rare occasions dead or damaged trachs will bud. I've seen a one or two come in as skeletons with two or three new buds on them. So I still say Trachyphyllia ;)

Good info.
I have read about that before but the pics I've seen of that happening has been of the buds
growing on the skeleton of the head and not on the base.
Also once the buds grow to a certain size, don't they just drop off and not continue to grow
attached?
But I agree that it most likely a trachyphyllia.
