Hi,

I've spent hours searching for a similar piece through various forums, Google Images, online wholesalers, etc....I'd love an ID on this monti. Any ideas?

My LFS has named it "Aquaman", but I'm wondering if any one has any other details or similar pieces?

(pics aren't all that fabulous, but I wanted to give you an idea of what the colors look like under MH, MH/Actinics, and Actinics only....you'll hopefully get the idea)

Very Awesome. Some sort of encrusting montipora. How long have you had it? Can you be more specific on the lighting?

Whatever it is. Name it and send me a frag!

If that's Carlos's, i was thinking it was "grafted" Montipora mollis http://coral.aims.gov.au/speciesPages/species_metadata/0263/view#

I don't think either would be a Porites. The corallites would be closer together. Montiporas are spread out a little more like yours and the one in the pic. Even WWC pic looks like a Monti. I can find any Porites that has polyps/corallites so distant.

Duh, I didn't even think about another forum being blacked out...!

The company selling it has labeled it Sweet Tart Porites.

On the forum people have also said:
- Looks more like a Stylocoeniella
- Really looks like a montipora to me
- Yea your right does look like a Monti. He said its Porites, but the Porites usually have a more hex shape and indention in the skeleton where the polyp is.

Tonight I'll post a picture since it has grown

Instead of plating out, it is growing many 'mounds' (OHHH, I know you're going to eat me up on that term...but what is the real way to describe the growth?) It has done very little encrusting where I placed it on the side of my LR.

Montiporas don't reall grow in mounds. Favias and Porites at two that will. That peice is still to small to say it's doing that. It is just encrusting. So it will spread out on the rock it is on or touches. Like this M. mollis.

Even though it is encrusting later down the road it could start to branch too or grow digitates. That could possible be the start of the knobs you see growing out.

Setosa will do that.

I would call it "Fruit Loops" Monti :D Just 'cause it looks like little fruit loops swimming in a bowl of milk.

Its beautiful no matter what you call it!! Awesome find!
