ID help

Can someone help identify this anemone? It was labeled as a 'pacific red flat anemone'. It is purple and white striped, and the base is red speckled. Thanks anyone. If you need more info or better pics, I will do what I can.

I have not seen enough in healthy condition to ID it, but it appears to have traits of H. malu.

You may not know for certain, but it should not hurt to treat it as a Heteractis species for now :)

fwiw: I hope it is digging into the sand, has it's mouth closed, and is sticky within a few days. The splotchy red on the column concerns me a bit.

Forgot to mention it was $8 if thats any indication as to what it is. Also do you think I should move it onto the sand?

Let it go where it wants to at this point. Make sure there are not any filter intakes, over flows and heaters in areas it can be injured.

Keep in mind, Heteractis is a very diverse Genus, photos on the web are often mis-ID'd, anemones frequently take weeks to recover from shipping, and pricing is a difficult measure in identification :)

Have fun :)

Not sure, but it looks like a cold water anemone from the Pacific NW. If so, it won't last unless your water temp is below 65. Did your supplier say where it came from?

Looks to me like H. aurora. As often happens it has lost the beads on its tentacles but has retained the stripes. It also may be H. malu.

Either way it is in pretty bad shape.

My "gut" feeling would say H. malu, but as Phender said, it could very well be a degraded specimen of H. aurora. You will most likely have to give it some time before you can have any sort of real ID.
