ID help

Can anyone ID this fast multiplying tentacled plant species? They started growing about 6 mos. ago. I have had my 75 gal. reef for about 1.5 years, and I suspect that they were already in the live rocks that I placed in the aquarium when it was setup. They are quite agressive and are starting to displace my polyps, thanks for any help.

Aiptasia galore!!:eek1: :eek1: :eek1: Well, Joes Juice is going to be time consuming because you have so many.

I'd go for peppermint shrimp and if that doesn't work, DEFINITELY go and get a berghia nudibranch. Those berghias eat up aiptasia like crazy.

Copperband Butterflies are also great for getting rid of aptasia if it suits your tank. Mine took out about 50 aptasia in a matter of 3 days and i've never seen one since

WOW, you are infested. Aiptasia for sure. They will sting and kill corals and take over your tank. Some of the suggestions above are not suited for an infestation like that. What size is the tank?

aquarius -if the guy can find some peppermint shrimps that will eat aiptasia, slowly and surely all the aiptasia will be gone.

Another faster route would be berghia nudibranchs. There was a thread a while back and man they are voracious eaters of nudibranchs and will reproduce quickly thereby having more baby berghias to eat the aiptasia. Once the aiptasia are gone, the guy can collect the berghias and trade them to other people here on RC.

I don't see any problems using the two above methods. The copperband butterflys are an iffy, not sure if I would trust them.

thanks for the help, thought about nudibranches but they are scarce and pricey. I bought a couple of pep. shrimp, but I forgot about my snowflake moray...[expensive moray food]...I finally went with the kalk./syringe method...it works VERY well. I did a single grid per day and it wipes them out completely and none have grown back yet...the entire tank [100 gal.] took only 4 days. I kept a close eye on my water parameters, with no changes evident.
