My power went out at 3am so I got up to check my tank with a flashlight and noticed what looked like the leg of a brittle star. When it moved though i realized it was much larger and orange. I guess it was 2+ feet long and when I put the light right on it, it disappeared but would come back within a minute.

Any ideas?

After some research, it looks like a eunicid worm like the one oregonereef had. Anyone know if I should leave it or get it out?

Kinda depends on what's in the tank. I think the Oregonreef guy said that it mowed down a bunch of ricordia.

The worm needs to go.

The worm needs to go.

Hey man, that beast you have there is gonna be hard to get out. They have great hiding spots and they are tough to remove. Some people have them at 2+ feet long. It is a predator, it eats corals. shrimps, tiny fishes, not so tiny fishes. It needs to be in a place of its own. If you ever lost live stock and could not find the bodies, he probably got it.

If you can get it out alive, I like to have it, I can pay for the shipping. I like mis-understood odd balls. Do some research on the net first. I have heard people rip apart their tank trying to get one of those out.

Size is by no means something that would define animal's feeding habits. You must observe it in action in order to confirm what they fency. I quite enjoy my eunicids that have took refuge by the glass in my DSB.

So far it hasn't affected my tank negatively and I haven't seen it for about a week. I took out two piseces of rock and poured some coke into the holes trying not to kill the buttons and mushrooms on it and found nothing. I guess I'm just gonna wait and see.
