ID needed on a maybe sponge.....

I purchased a sponge recently and this was on the same rock but looks totally different for the actual sponge. The guy I bought it from said it is also a sponge, so I thought I would check. I think it has actually grown a little in 1 week since I got it, as it did not have the bulbous ends that you can see in the picture.

Any idea's??

I'm not sure, as there are so many different types of sponges, but my suggestion is to cross post this in the macro algae forum as well, as someone over there may be able to identify it as a species of macro. My first guess would be that it is a macro algae, but I don't know of what genus or species it is.

I went to a new shop yesterday and they had tons of it growing in their refugium, pretty nice looking algae though.
