ID of plant

Can anyone tell me what this is, LFS sold this to my son. It's nice looking but would like to know what it is.

I call it "Waving Hand Anthelia"... Its a damn weed and WILL take over a tank spreading everywhere..
Throw it in the trash IMO...

Anthelia. It is a fast grower and can take over a tank if you let it. Keep it isolated on the sandbed and well trimmed and you won't have any problems.

Yep thats a positive ID
It is not a plant but a coral. A "beginner coral" and as a lot of "beginner corals" . To quote "" this soft coral makes a great coral for beginners to the reef hobby. Please note that Anthelia are one of the fastest growing corals and can easily envelop large sections of real estate in your tank."" They left out the hard to kill part.

Your first mistake is thinking you can keep it trimmed up..
It owns you.. not the other way around..

I've had a single 1" square frag of that grow to cover every surface of a 6ft tank in 1 year....
Its satan..

As long as you pay close attention the coral and take action when needed you shouldn't have any problems with it. Same goes for Xenia, Kenya Trees & Bubble algae too.
