I have 2 that I am unsure of, the first I *think* might be a feather duster, the second I have no idea, I haven't found anything that looks exactly like it.

thanks for the help -

the first appears to be some sort of feather duster type filter feeder, the second possibly a mojano

Agreed the first one looks like a feather duster The second one appears to be a Curlie Que anemone. Do a Google search on them. They are related to Aiptasia but they do not grow to plague proportions :D All they look like is a HUGE Aiptasia but have those rings around their tentacles.

I'm not positive of the spelling but that should get you some results.

i think the 2nd one looks like a majano. i had a huge outbreak of them. you do not want that trust me, they are a real pain. if you cant id it as a something else i would get rid of it.

thanks everyone for the confirmation - I think I'll go the safe route and take out the second -

do these things hide forever and then pop out one day? this rock has been in the tank for probably 5 months and I've added nothing in the last 4 and this is the first I've seen of it and it is small, like the size of a pencil maybe

I had my first aiptasia growing on my ceramic rock of all places.
I was a bit wary about trying to remove it in case it released spores and multiplied so I left it be for about 6 weeks.
Then yesterday I noticed one of my cleaner shrimp bothering it so I got the turkey baster with boiling water to destroy it.
I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it was to do, I simply gave it one good squirt and it shrivelled up and started to disintergrate sso I immediately sucked it up and voila...... gone without a trace (unless its spores survived the boiling water that is).
If it comes back with a vengance I am planning to get a trio of berghias to finish the job.

if you use a product like apstasia x it pretty much glues the mouth closed and prevents it from spreading. like I said I had a major majano problem a few months ago. they killed a lot of my corals and I eventually removed half of my rocks and then used about 5 bottles of apstasia remover to remove the rest. every time I think they are all gone another sprouts up.

I just went and checked on the stuff I got after apstasia x. its called apstasia away by fox labs. if you read what's in it appears similar to apstasia x, however it works better on majanos in my opinion.
