it seems to come from florida, i bought a rock with ricordias and this stuff grew off this rock. it has since taken over the top of the rock and through my attemts to remove it i have helped it spread to other rocks.

thank you, is there anything that would eat this? my snails wont and my hermits wont, and the urchin wont. (urchin might but it likes the other algae more)

There are a few fish that probably would, but if this is in the 10 gal tank then none would be suitable.Your best bet would be manual removal, and siphon out any stray pieces or replace the rock all together.

I getting this algae out of my reef but I had to power wash the worst of it off the rocks, remove all blue light including the actinic, and cut the photo period to 5 hours. I vacuum the tank frequently with a Magnum water polishing filter to remove any bits of floating algae. In 4 weeks Dictyota is down to only a few hard to get spots.
