i recently found this peaking out of my sand bed. someone said it most likely is LPS Blasto Merletti but bleached out... when i found it i thought it attached itself to the top of a dead LPS branch(not sure if branch is what you'd call it). but have been told that it is actually it's skeleton... i'm really new to SW so i'm still unsure if that means that the branch became it's skeleton or if it was always it's skeleton. well, when i first found it, it was a little pinkish and a bit larger, didn't even realize it was on a rock until i went to move it. it was also darker in color, pinkish and didn't really look to be round. looked more oval. should i bury the branch/stem in the sand with the polyps at the top like i found it or should i mount it somewhere? right now i have it laying on a rock at the bottom of the tank, unshaded... what is the best setting for this in my tank.

looks like a single head of blasto merletti thats been bleached out (like you said above). it could also possibly be these things (cant remember the name) that come in commonly on florida liverock. they cast out clear little tentacles and grow a tall base structure just like in your pic.

I know what you're talking about dusty (seems like they call them cups or something that didn't make much sense to me), but I think it is is a merletti, too. Put it in some low light and see what it does;).

thank you everyone... i've moved it to a lower light area and less flow... it already seems to be getting it's color back. how do i feed it. someone had mentioned to me that i should feed it small meaty food.

thanks again,
Ryan
