epitoke. its part of a bristleworms reproduction. the male turns into a free swimming worm.

It's not a parasitic worm is it?

i dont know enough about them. but they are bristleworms first. when the male becomes mature he turns into an epitoke, and mates, making more bristleworms

It's scary looking, but not any more harmful than the bristleworm it came from. It is just the reproductive form.
