ID Please

I am not sure where to get the ID for this so I started here. I saw this thing the other day on the left side of me tank and now see it over on my right side of the tank. I originally thought it was algae but now that I look at it closer and it moved it looks to be something.

Any idea?

I looked up limpet and it looks like its a shell. The thing in my tank looks like a flat disk and it looks like it may have a mouth in the center. Its about the size of a pinky fingernail.

If you touch it is it hard. There are many different shapes and sizes of limpets. If not a limpet I'm still gonna say its in the snail family

I will check it out. I think you are correct that its in the snail family. That was my first thought. At least that makes me less nervous that its something bad. Thanks for letting me know.

No problem but just because its a snail doesn't mean its not bad there are some bad snails. Let me know if you find out the species

I think it is an operculum from a trochus snail.

It's not alive. lol It is the trap door of a snail. one of your snails must have died or it came in on a peice of live rock.

I don't have much experience yet in the hobby but it does kinda look like that... although I've never seen one that was translucent... and it looks really thin to be the protective disc. JMO.
