It was growing next to a little piece of xenia i have been trying to removed then i figured it was xenia spreading.
then after looking at it i decided it wasn't xenia. So what do you think it is?

GSP green star polyp. That is just my guess, but they suck in like that and grow in mats and judging by the actinic photo, the spots that glow are the polyps trying to open.

i have never had that in my tank and i have had my tank for months Doesnt GSP grow like a weed?
What can i do to prevent this from taking over an area of the tank?

Yes it out grows things but really you can just pull it off and toss. It's not like the leathers or Xenia it doesn't drop off parts it just expands. I isolate it on a rock and just keep it surrounded by sand it doesn't stop it from spreading but it does leave me time to catch it before it spreads.
