That little bit of yellow triangle at the base of the tail and the tapering head bar makes me think allardi.
Athough we don't seem to see them much, adult allardi have white tails.

Obviously if you knew where it was captured, you would already have your answer.

if i saw this fish in a store, i would definetely think allardi over chrysopterus.

the head bars closeness to the eye, and the thickness of it in comparison to the mid bar is what suggests allardi to me...

I agree. Here's a Chrysopterus from fishbase for comparison.

Yes, I would say melanopus.
Black ventral fins and yellowish tail say it for me.

Hmm, my first thought is allardi, as well. I doubted it at first due to probability, as you mentioned, but the coloration just suggests allardi so strongly (at least to me).

Tough one Gary. The soft dorsal looks more like chrys and the slightly thicker middle stripe than I'd expect in allardi. If it is a juvenile then I'd say it's almost certainly chrys.

I'd definately say the second is a melanopus.
