I bought my Xenia a few weeks ago, and just now noticed this little guy. What is he?

This is some type of algea I have had on my 1 rock forever now. I am just wondering what kind it is.

The growth with your Xenia, does it move, or is it stationary? It looks like some type of leather coral, I'll see if I can find a pic.

As far as I can tell, it it waves in the current. It has white polyps that open during the day also.

What about that algea? I know it's a bad pic, but notice the round tips on the algea like a flower almost.

Possibly Sinularia, or Nepthea. From what I can make out in the algae pic it looks kinda cool, any chance of getting another more in focus shot?

Yeah, I will try for a better pic and post it up tomorrow. Do you have a pic or link to the coral you think it is? Thanks!

Ok, after looking up the names you gave me, it is definatly Nepthea. And here is the more in focus shot of the algea.

LMK!!!

Thanks! I have never even heard of this coral before. And I think i am going to like it too! Any ideas on the algea anyone?

Looks like several types of algae, or one with many growth structures. The cups I want to say are acetebularia, the rest I dont know. If you dont get an answer here try in the Marine plants and macro forum.

I think Acetabularia has at least 30 segments in the reproductive structure we call the cap. Look at Parvocaulis parvula on Algaebase. org.
