Hello,

I notice these white sponge looking things a few weeks after placing some macro algae into my sump, which I got from one of our LFS. They are oval in shape with a head that looks almost like a sea cucumber. Any body know what it is and what kind of affects it may have on a reef tank. They are multiplying like crazy!! Last of all how do I get rid of them. Any help is apprecitaed. Thanks.

Thanks Edwin,

I guess as long as they are not in my display tank I'm Ok with it. Anyhow would you happen to know of any way to get rid of them, just incase they do get into my display tank?

I have a lot of them growing in my display tank. I haven't looked in the sump, but they are probably there too. I don't plan to eradicate them, it is free life I didn't have to pay extra for :)

From what Ive read on the subject, it's indicative of a low light and low to moderate flow environment, and typically near a stable nutrient supply ie, behind powerheads, overflows, and sumps.

That would make sense. The ones in my tank are growing on the underside of rocks, in the shade and away from strong currents.
