Dont quote me on that as im not wealthy enough to own one but i wouldnt be suprised if they did contain platinum. If im wrong i stand corrected. Was just using that as a reference to get my point across.
 
Of course they make platinum rolexes. Only $61,0000 too! Diamond encrusted bezel, Meteorite face too!

sorry to play devils advocate but i think people might have the wrong concept of a tyree coral. usually people talk bad about a tyree coral without realy knowing the process it takes to become such coral. i as a collector have learned this the hard way. usually the corals that become tyree corals are corals that have been in captivity for a long time and have proven their aquaculture status thru years of aquaculture thru diffrent tanks and conditions. Not that they are nicer or the best but that they are usually guarnteed to be hardy and the color you expect it to be. how many times have you purchased something online that looked great in the picture and then you get it and it looks completely different???i know its happened to me. with a tyree you know what your getting. how many times have you seen a really nice chalice online or elsewhere and you buy it and after a couple of days or weeks it starts to bleach and you have no idea why when everything else in the tank its doing fine and your parameters are great????well thats happened to me with a lot of newly imported chalices. sometimes losing a really nice chalice or coral. see with a tyree you know that wont happen. also how many times have you bought a recently imported coral that looks crazy nice and after a couple of months in your tank or with artificial lighting it starts to change colors and its not as expectacular as it was when you gat it.??? well thts happened to me also. with a tyree you know it wont do that. my point is that after colllecting for such a long time the type of corals that i like its just sometimes easier knowing the what your going to get and everything about a corals speed of grows, color morphs, and adaptibility to artificial lighting. although recently it hasnt happened as consistently the idea steve tyree had was a good one and worked real well. if you go to his site his coral usually arent that expensive and are always cheaper then the person that is selling then originally.he even puts the information of the person who os selling then on the coral description page. his odea was for harder to find nicer corals to make there way into different peoples hands around the us. obviously lately with the amount of crazy nice corals imported in that has changed the view of people to a tyree. also what really made people think bad about it was when online vendors started to imitate tyree and making their own limited edition corals and selling then for ridiculous money. al of the sudden everycoral out there was a LE and it gave tyree a bad name. i think the concept is great and just like selling anything with a name it is what it is. i dont think the rolex was compared to coral in a direct way but more of the concept of selling. i can have a war coral just as nice as a tyree but that usually happens very rare but it does happen and when it does i would be the first to buy it. but in general tyree war corals tend to be really spectacular pieces of coral that are hardy and tested thru time in captivity. therefor people look for lineage because it shows how long that coral has been in captivity witha great track record.and generally he doesnt decide the price of a coral the way he prices his corals is he puts the first 2 in an auctions sees what people are willing to pay for it and sells then for a little bet less then the auctions end for. this was not meant to accuse anyone or anything of the sort with no pun intended just meant to educate people a little about the concept behind tyrees selling strategy so people could then judge with better facts. obviously some people still wont want to spend that money on a coral but this way they know the facts before making a statement or accusation.
