Id - scallop (??) crawling up glass

Found this today, haven't seen him around before, but I'm surprised to see him climbing up the glass. I'm worried this means he's starving and looking for food...

They look like the kind of clams you eat. :D I believe they are fairly short lived in our tanks. I've had some in my rocks, never seen them climb the glass tho. Kind of neat tho.

I think it might be a cleaner clam. From what I read on another fish board, they are the same kind you get in stores (and in fact you can go buy them, put them in a glass of water until they spit, to make sure they're alive then put them in the tank).

They seem to have mixed reviews, some say they're long-lived, some say short. Lots of people say they have a reputation for reducing nitrate, although other than the cleaning function, I'm not sure how that would happen.

Mine has been around awhile, I haven't added any rock that he could have been attached to in a long time.

LOL, yeah everybody has a different opinion for sure. It will be cool if they do survive long term. I love scoping out different critters in the tank.
