After close inspection of my new LR, I found this rather large bug ( about 1/4" to 3/8" long ). Then all of a sudden, I seen a dozen or so smaller ones just like it ( maybe 1/8" or less ) scurrying around. I looked on Meleve's web site and it kind of looks like an Amphipod. The Amphipod photos I could find made the Pod look much more translucent then this one I have, so I wasnt sure if it was an Amphipod or not.

If it's not an Amphipod, what is it and is it reef safe?

Thanx for your help.

Thanx. Are there Amphipods from different regions, making some more dark in color and not translucent ( like the photos I found )?

while there are different species and some with different color, most case they get there color from what they eat. if you see different colored ones in the tank, usually is just one ate different algae than the other. most the time :)
