What kind of clam is this?

And what would you say is the lighting requirement for it?

Also does it look healthy to you?

its a Crocea, it has the highest lighting demands of all the clams. as for health IMO its a little brown and the apitasia on the shell isn't helping

yeah.. kill the aspasia on it.. otherwise he looks happy... ( hard to tell with a foward looking pic)

It's not my clam, it's my friends, the reason I ask is because he has had it in his tank for over a year, it is a 55G with 240W of PC lighting. He keeps telling me to get a clam, but I keep insisting I don't have enough light, and try to convince him that he doesn't either. If this guy really "required" bright light, metal halide, etc... wouldn't it have been dead by now? Im not trying to say that clams don't need high light, just wondering how his is living fairly well in his lighting?

the truth is that it can take a very long time for a clam to starve to death. clams rely on the zooxanthellae algae in their mantle for food and the zoox rely's on strong light. if you look at the mantle on the left side in the middle you will see lots of 'white" with spots of color. on a healthy crocea this should be solid with color.

could you post a top down picture with the pumps off?
