I've been very intrested in starting a little 10g tank with just shrooms, and then moving them, once theyve grown, into my show.
My 10g setup as follows:
Filtration- Tetra tec 40 (guesing around 250gph)
extra movement-1-2 mj400 or 1 1200
Skimmer- Tunze nano skimmer
crushed coral bed w/LRR
LIGHTING, im really confused about this
The hood the tank came with can hold (max 100w) (2) 50w incanscent lights but I was wondering if that would be okay? another option would be to put those mini flourescent bulbs on it instead would it be any differernce?

Feeding- can some one with great knoledge reccomend great kinds of food?

Thanks

Id keep that lighting, and not worry about feeding. You could do without the skimmer on such a small tank if you just undertook weekly water changes. They are pretty bullet proof.

i use the same hood and i put 2 50/50 compacts in there and my ricordea's and for that matter all my shrooms are flourishing!

Don't keep the incandescant lights unless you change the bulbs for PC scre-ins. The incandescant are too hot and the wrong color.

Ok so those regular PC screw ins should be good enough to work, for growth purposes.

Should I be worrying about algea problems? with out a skimmer.
Well they're wont be any fish or crabs/snails

The same hood that is used is the regular hood that came with a little 10g package from tetra

On the bed show I keep it as crushed coral? or existing live sand from my system?
as for water should I add brand new water or water from my tank?

you can use your live sand or crushed but i would use new water from your lfs. just use those 20 watt screw in pc flourescents. thats what i use on my 10 gallon and i've been growing ricordea's and zoan's under it for years.

well thats pretty cool. Sad to say my nearest (personal owned) LFS just closed today I went on a little shoping spree yesterday (75% OFF)
So I should just brew up a new batch of saltwater?

I did a little test today. I had the filter runing as well as 1mj 400 and it seemed to much flow. Should I have the mj deflected? I was also thinking of getting some clip on lights instead of the hood so I can have an open top.

Clip ons would probably be better as with a tank that small it won't take much to heat it up. Why not do a DIY overflow from your main tank and use the MJ400 with some tubing to pump the water back that way the shrooms will be in cycled, temp acurate water? Something along the lines of this.

How would I make the DIY overflow? I like that design. Could my future nano be above the main tank or does it have to be below?

Oh yeah my main tank is a 55g and its on a regualr all glass stand. But next to it is my entertainment center its about 9inches away from the tank. I have space to fit the 10g on top of my EC which is 2ft diagnoly from the 10 to the 55. That would mean I'd have to have a away fro the water to go up and down evenly.
Or
I can put the tank in an area where my 360 & PS3(puy them ontop of the EC) go, which would give the pump about 3ft in head.

I have every thing I need to set up the tank except for the carbon+bacteria. I was going to use a filter rated for a 40-55g tank which the flow rate is 200gph. So I would need the whisper20 rated @ 106gph? Or heres another Idea

The water would just over flow into the first chamber where the MJ would force water through a bag filled with carbon into section 2 ( there would be big holes in the baffel between sec 1 & 2) then the water would be pumped back into the tank by the MJ.

Would that work instead of using the HOB?
