Ideal Seahorse Tank size?

Well I had a seahorse tank set up in a 35hex a few years back. After all the changes I've made with my tanks withis is one I wish I sill had going and am thing of doing it again. What would the ideal tank size be for one pair- maybe two pair of seahorses? i wand to use sand and live rock, but was thinking even experimenting with black sand...Any thoughts on that? Will use a skimmer, prolly a bakpak or other hang on and maybe a canister for carbon. And can I have seahorses and pipefish in the same tank?

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

The size of your tank depends on what type of seahorse species your planning on keeping, IMHO 30 gallons is a mimimum for most. Capensis, whitei, and the like can be kept in smaller tanks but need chillers and are harder to find.

If you use a skimmer go for the coralife needlewheel skimmers, not to expensive and are pretty effective. Some members have had problems with gas bubble disease when adding a skimmer, but I haven't seen it with mine yet.

Black sand really shows off your seahorse, that's what I have in my tank.

And last but not least, no you can't keep pipefish with seahorses, just like you can't mix species. Just about every pipefish bought is wild caught and can spread vibrio, etc. to you horses.
