I have an empty 12 gallon jbj tank. Empty and im looking for ideas for a tank. I dont want a standard reef for it, I want a unique tank anyone have any ideas??

I guess a couple of questions would be

lighting?
budget?

Maybe you can do a all polyp tank with zoos..I've seen some small systems that are a burst of colors doing just these things, less maintenence and budget friendly. JMO

you could do seahorses.

I think the tank is too small for seahorses, they require a ton of attention too, my friend has a 55 gallon horse tank and the maintenence is crazy!

Species tank ? Mantis, or shrimp/goby pair, or frogfish ? With any one you can have lower light corals without upgrading.

Have a single branching LPS and grow it out into a huge colony.

Upgrade the lighting and flow and you could have an SPS tank with clown gobies perching in the branches.

A planted seagrass tank, not sure what animals would be appropriate with this one.

Buy some premium cultured live rock and just see what grows.

Better quit before I go out and buy some more nano tanks  .

you can do brackish water... the fish can be hard to get but it would be fun... a lot of salt can live in brackish and a lot of fresh can live in brackish. just an idea!

my LFS has a JBJ 12G NC with seahorse, some cleanup and some corals

it's really a wonderful tank I would've bought it right there all set

seahorses are fascinating creatures

E.

Yea, I dont want the normal reef. I have my 30 gallon and 55 for that. Im looking at maybe a dwarf horse tank or maybe a sea grass tank. But im looking for ideas.

oh, how about a pair of Harleqiin Shrimp with a small goby and a damsel (some of them are so beautiful and just dont get any attention.. also they are cheap) .... or a similar sized fish...a dn then u could do some Macroalgea and some Mushrooms and Rics and Zoanthids..

Interesting, like i could special order a rare damsel if i can find one. And some stuff like that, interesting. I was thinking a sea grass tank with a small yellow goby in it.

man, a macro tank would be real cool. Nothing but different types of macros and inverts...

Yea, looks like i just found my new tank. Thanks guys.

Macro? Ya gotta share pics as you build, I would love to see how that type of set up begins.

I plan to do alot of research before I do it. But I will start a log asap to help you guys with pics and everything. I plan to build it out of mostly stuff i have laying around my house. soo as of that i plan to use a JBJ nano 12 gallon with Chemi pure in the sections with a 3-4" sandbed. With Live rock but not takeing up alot of room. Maybe 12 pounds max in one corner with maybe a ric and some other small polyps that can be moved into my 30 if its get to big. But I want it to look really good, with a natural touch to it.

I'm in the process of putting up a JBJ 12G OG NanoCube myself and am trying to figure out what to stock it with myself. This thread has helped me consider a few things.

Thats good, as of right now i dont know if the light will be enough I may have to mod a 70 watt MH in there but I dont want to spend mass amounts of money on them, Im going to check my LFS for ballasts and such. Also for all you wonder about my tank I will not be keeping it stock with a drilled back to hold a outflow and a inflow. I will use a pump rated at about 200-300 gallons per hour running into a 10 gallon sump. With a SCWD connected to locline fittings.
