Ideas for October meet

For those who do not know, the CVRC swaps of the past were big events. We had door prizes, contests, food and drinks. When we left the old location we lost a lot of these privileges.

However I would like to hold a contest at this next event if it is agreeable. Bring in what you think is the best shot of your reef tank and we will hold a vote. The winner will receive an undetermined prize at this point. Don't expect to much as it will be from me and don't expect to little also as it is from me :), you will also be featured on our website :)<b>

So start taking pics and find the one you think is your best shot. It can be of a coral, a fish in a coral, the full tank etc...

Any questions direct them to this thread only please.

Thanks,
Ron

I would really love to see a demo on a fuge. I personally do not understand them, and would benifit greatly if there were to be a discussion about their benifits and so on. Also, maybe how to turn a wet/dry sump into a fuge and how to introduce it to your system when you have been using only the bio balls. Just a suggestion, perhaps other newbies would be interested as well.
Thanks,
Nancy

I wanted to do a sump demo last swap, but I was too sick. If Ron still doesnt care, and nobody else wants to do it...Ill take a video of me sitting mine up, and play it at the next swap.

Okay, if I sound stupid, please excuse this post. I was thinking someone could dicuss group buys, maybe be one person that can do group buys, take suggestions to get one going every once in a while, and have a designated area for pick up. Making group buys more organized kinda is what I am thinking. This person would be more famliarized with the different places, using the best ones. If anyone would be interested in something like this, I will get up and discuss it.

I tried to initiate several GBs with no luck. We couldn't seem to agree on what to buy. I even brokered a deal with a supplier to treat our club as a "retail entity" of sorts so we could buy a hodge-podge of stuff. We still have the account and can use it anytime. So, if you folks want to put something together we can. Of course any one of you is also free to put together these GBs on your own as well.

Another thing: If we want refreshments at our meetings we can always do the "bring a covered dish thing"-- as long as the funeral home doesn't care.

For that matter, we could throw a kegger! I'll bet attendance would go up. Hmmm... something about getting plastered in a funeral home seems morally questionable though....

Okay everyone, remember, MUST BRING ID! :)

Oh, and the contest sounds wonderful Ron, I'm busy taking pictures now! HEY MARY........

Ok people this is a blank slate of sorts:
Lets get some brain storming for ideas here, I have about 50 members in the CVRC/RC family data base here. I want to hear from any of you who have any ideas. Don't worry about how stupid they may seem to you or if someone thinks it may be a bad idea. Post it here and lets start getting ideas together for this thing.

Could someone do a demo about making an aquaclear..??? (can't remember model) into a refugium using eggcrate, live rock, macros, and a slip on light or something? I saw this somewhere, and it seemed to REALLY work well. I'm planning to do this for my up and coming H. brevicep tank. Should be fun.

Heck, i'll do it if someone provides the AquaClear, lol.

was kidding, Jason made a comment about having a kegger.

Damn my grey hair won't work??? Now I gotta go to the DMV and sit there for a couple hours.

Like we posted in another thread, I think if Mary and I bring in our non-operational calcium reactors and get those up and running, I think we could help the club as a whole as far as these devices go. I'll bring mine in... Mary?
